21 Feb 2006 : Kzoo Finishes Season with Excellent Performances at MIAA

On February 9-11, Kalamazoo College completed the swim season at the 2006 MIAA Championships. Their efforts were marked “with heart, composure, and determination,” said Head Coach Kathy Milliken. The men’s team and the women’s team both finished in fourth place. Three Kalamazoo swimmers (Katie Stefl, Bobby Dekker and Joe Waller) were selected to the 2005-06 All-MIAA Swimming Teams. Stefl, a freshman from Farmington Hills (Harrison), Dekker, a freshman from Rochester Hills (Rochester), and Waller, a senior from Ann Arbor (Pioneer), placed top-six in all three of their individual events. Dekker earned a National “B” Cut in the 200 IM while winning his first MIAA title. Head Coach Kathy Milliken remarked, “I am extremely proud…This year’s team laid a strong foundation for our building program that will help our teams develop in the future seasons.”

3 Dec 2005 : Hornets Compete at the Winter EMU Invitational
From Ryans Booms
On December 2-3, the ferocity of the Hornet's sting was unleashed at the EMU Invitational as "K" swimmers posted phenomenal performances in the pool and dominated the deck with unwavering enthusiasm. The competition featured several Division-I teams, including Eastern Michigan, Wayne State, and the women’s squad from the University of Michigan, ranked 14th nationally. "K" also raced MIAA rival Calvin College. Although some pundits claimed that "K" dominance in the MIAA had dissolved, Hornets proved themselves to be serious contenders once again. The men’s team wrapped up the weekend with a third place finish behind Eastern and Wayne State, while defeating MIAA opponent Calvin. The women’s team, although short of All-American Elizabeth Garlow, swam resiliently to a sixth place finish. The formula for “K”’s success was a confident freshmen class as well as a strong group of upperclassmen who elevated their game from last year’s EMU Invite. Head Coach Kathy Milliken offered the following insight regarding Kalamazoo’s performance at the EMU Invite: “After only a short rest for the meet, the team exceeded my expectations with a large number of personal bests and all in-season bests. It was an exciting and fun meet that left us all looking forward to the remainder of the season and especially the MIAA Championships in February.”
